The Holy Spirit, What A Person!

by Charlie Rogers

Many people at times wonder, "How do I know that I am born again? How do I keep this confidence once I am saved?" This is the job and work of the Holy Spirit.

Rom 8:15-17 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out,"Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. NKJV

When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior we receive the spirit of adoption. We no longer have to fear what is going to happen when we die. Because we know that we have been accepted into the body of Christ. We know that we are born again, because the Holy Spirit bears witness with our human spirit that we have become a child of God. We just know that it has happened because of what we feel inside, deep down knowing that we are born again. The Spirit of Adoption has come witnessing with our spirit that a change has taken place, that now we have a knowing, that we are in touch with God and can receive from God. Since the Word says that at this point we have become heirs, joint heirs with Christ, meaning everything God has is now ours to receive.

At times Satan will come to try and cause doubt in our minds that we are born again, that’s what he does.

John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. NKJV

Satan is that thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy. He likes nothing more than to steal the confidence from us that we our born again. But once again the Holy Spirit comes with the Word of God to the rescue to stop the work that Satan tries to do in making us think that he has stolen our salvation. But with the Holy Spirit on the scene we have that witness on the inside that tells us differently. The Word is our defense, it stops Satan in his tracks through the power of the Holy Spirit. That’s why it is so important to spend time in the Word of God and be one who prays in other tongues a lot. Its so that you have something to stop the enemy in your life! Jesus said that He comes that we might not only have life but that we might have it abundantly.

Rom 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. NKJV

You can’t have faith that you’re born again without the Word of God on the inside of you. When Satan comes to try and talk you out of your salvation, it’s the Word of God that is your defense, your weapon that will stop him. One cannot be born again unless the Word of God is preached. Then that vessel (ourselves) must be continually filled with the Word of God that there might be no room for the enemy to do damage to us.

Jude 20-21 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. NKJV

We must continually pray in other tongues that we might continually be built up in the spirit on our holy faith, once again stopping the enemy from stealing from us by keeping ourselves in His love and His mercy. Therefore, making sure there is no room for Satan to beat us down and making us feel that we are down and no longer saved.

What a wonderful job the Holy Spirit has, He not only empowers us with the Word to stop the devil in his tracks, but look what it says about the Holy Spirit in John 14.

John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. NKJV

It says He won’t leave us helpless, He will be in us, and He won’t leave us orphans, that’s you and I. He will keep us in all truth; we won’t be in this world alone. He will always be with us. He is not an IT but He is a person! And this is not all of His job.

Rom 8:12-14 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. NKJV

It’s His job through the work in our born again spirit, and our walk with God, walking after that born again spirit, that He will lead us and make us a mature one in Christ. From our new birth to our maturity in Christ, He is there taking us all the way! What a Person!
