Standing Against Your Evil Day! by Charlie Rogers Have you ever wondered what the Word of God was meaning when Paul said in Eph.6:13 “us being able to withstand in the evil day”? Paul doesn’t say maybe we will have an evil day or maybe you will have an evil day and I won’t. But He states matter of factly that we will have one. This is what it says in its entirety in Eph 6:10-13 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. NKJV Every person, you and I alike will face an evil day. Your evil day may be of a different type than mine, but we will face an evil day. It may be a highly terminal disease like cancer that Satan tries to take your life here on earth. Or, maybe disabling resident diseases like arthritis or diabetes. For someone else their evil day may be emotional bankruptcy, a nervous breakdown, maybe from the loss of a loved one. For another it may be a total loss of finances resulting in financial bankruptcy. Regardless of the type or the situation we each will experience our evil day. We see similarly in Matt 7:24-27"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall." NKJV So once again we see that things are going to come against us and try to destroy us. Each and every one of us with no exceptions. His Word doesn’t say with one a storm will come and with another the storms won’t come against a person. Not one of us is exempt. We are guaranteed by the Word of God storms will come against our house. It’s not a matter of if, but of when, and are we ready! God is a good Father He not only tells us ahead of time that these things will definitely come our way, but He also tells us what to do about it and how to prepare for them so that we may be victorious. For instance in Eph 6:10-11 He says: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. He is telling us here to be strong in the Lord and in His power, to put on all of the armor of God and that this is the way that we will stand against whatever designs and plans that the enemy has set into action against our lives. When we do this we will be ready for that evil day, and be able to stand against all that Satan can do to destroy us, no matter what our evil day is. This tells me for one thing that we have an enemy and that we are in a war. Also that to prepare for the battle that confronts us, we must do something ahead of time. In order to be able to make a stand on our evil day we cannot just do nothing, it cannot just be life as usual. Once again looking at Matt 7:24-27"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall." NKJV We find that the storms are going to come against our house, but we also see that our house will stand and not fall providing that we do the things that our Father says to do. That we not only hear His sayings but that we also do them. Which is also stated in James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. NKJV We see in both places that we can hear and hear His word and it will still not stop what comes against us unless we begin to do His word in our lives. In fact in Matt. 7 it says basically you don’t know Him if you don’t do His Word. For certain if you’re not doing His Word your house will not stand. Since I know now for sure that storms will come against my house, and I will have an evil day at some point, I want to make sure that that I’m ready for whatever comes against my house. I want to be ready for my evil day so that I can stand steadfast against that evil assignment of the enemy. So let’s look closer at what it takes to be in that position to keep from being overcome by the enemy. In Matt 7:24-25"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. We see here that Jesus likens this person to a wise man, a person with wisdom, the person that does His sayings. This person that does the sayings of Jesus is a wise person and their house stands against the different storms that come against them. So we know by this that to be ready means that we are wise and to be wise means we are doing the Word of God. To build a house on a solid foundation that will withstand sickness, financial and emotional devastation means our life must be built on what we read and do in the Word of God. We must obtain wisdom, but how do we get wisdom? From knowing Him, from a personal relationship with Jesus and doing His Word. We get another confirmation in His Word in Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Here Paul says to be strong in the Lord, in other words know Him, have a personal relationship with Him, trust in Him, and know what He can do for you, His might. You won’t know what He can do for you or the power of His might without believing in and doing His Word. What are you going to have to stand on when your evil day comes unless you know His Word, and can trust that He is who He says He is, and will do what He says He will do for you. Once again talking about a personal relationship. I am talking about entering into praying with other tongues, worship, meditating and confessing the Word of God along with some fasting thrown in, those are the tools He gave us in His Word to develop that personal relationship with Him. Some people wait until their evil day comes to start developing a personal relationship with God and that can sometimes be too late in order to be able to withstand the attack or at least make it a very difficult time. The Word says in Eph 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. NKJV Meaning you might have done all you know to do but you will still need to be able to stand. You might think I am skipping over the armor of God. That is a whole other teaching that we will get into at a later time, but I will say this I was told many years ago when I first came to know Jesus that to put on the armor of God I had to get up in the morning and imagine putting on each piece of armor. This is incorrect teaching. Putting on the armor is a walk with God. If you begin to look at it this way, you will be looking at it more correctly. As I said this is another teaching that we will do someday. Lets see what Paul says leading up to being able to stand when that evil day comes by looking at Eph 5:15-19 Walk in Wisdom See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, NKJV Once again the Word of God tells us to walk in wisdom and not to be going here and there with no direction or purpose, and He basically says if you do He likens you to a fool. But once again He says to be wise and as He said previously to be wise and to walk in wisdom is to do the Word of God, not just be hearers of it. And why does He say to be this way? Because the days are evil and don’t waste time but to use your time with a purpose. How about using it to develop a personal relationship with the Father, so that when you’re evil day comes you may be able to stand against it. He says in the Word in verse 17 to understand what the will of God is. That will is to be victorious over your evil day and the storms that come against you and your house. He goes on and talks about being filled with the Spirit of God continually thru doing the Word of God and in this case He is talking about worship. Worshipping God on a continual basis as a way of life that when your evil day comes you will know how to stand through worshipping the Father and staying in that relationship with Him. Hallelujah!!!! This teaching is not meant to try to scare someone into a personal relationship with the Father but to encourage and prepare us for that evil day that we will all face regardless of what form it comes. I pray and believe this teaching has been a blessing for those that read it and do it. Feel free to make copies and pass it on to others. |
